I was searching for ways to make Valentine’s Day special this year. I wanted to do something Fun…something Memorable… something Different…
So, we started off the evening with some FUN…we had breakfast for dinner. I know this is not that unusual for some people, but for us it definitely was! I made chocolate chip pancakes with a side of fresh strawberries and a sprinkle, I use that word lightly, of whipped cream. Vivianne and Lilah each took turns dousing their pancakes in what seemed like a mountain of cream, with smiles as big as rainbows. And if that wasn’t enough, Thomas would ask them to come over and they would stand by his chair, tilt their heads back, and open their little mouths like birds and he would squirt in a mouthful of whipped cream. It was so funny! We laughed, they giggled. “More!” they’d beg. “Ok,” we’d answer. Over and over, again. And for that moment, all was right in the world….Reddi wip…who knew ;-)
Earlier that week, I had come across this amazing idea, a Valentine’s Day Scavenger Hunt! Now, wouldn’t that be MEMORABLE! All it took was typing up a few clues, cutting them out and placing them around the house. I put two hershey kisses with each clue so they could have a little treat along the way, you know, keep lil’ Lilah motivated until the end ;-) The girls worked together, Dad would help read the clue and off they’d run to go find the next clue. The final clue led them to the refrigerator. They opened the door, and there sitting on the top shelf, to their surprise, were two pairs of the sparkliest, girliest, shoes I could find (on my mad dash to Target that afternoon) filled with the rest of the hershey kisses. The excitement that followed was truly priceless…a new pair of shoes and some chocolate must really be the way to a girl’s heart ;-)
We ended the night with a “glow-in-the-dark” bath (aka, glow sticks in the tub with the lights off). It was DIFFERENT, it was simple…it was perfect.
